The Token Bill Has Finally Arrived
On June 2, 2026, the White House signed an executive order that lets the federal government test "covered frontier models" up to 30 days before any public release. The NSA decides which models qualify, through a classified benchmarking process. The order calls it voluntary. OpenAI said yes within days.
So either this is overdue national security, or it's a 30-day government waiting room bolted onto every frontier release. That's the cold open. From there, Oscar and Matt filter the week's AI noise — GitHub Copilot flipping to token billing with bills jumping 10x to 50x, Microsoft and Google crashing the coding party, ChatGPT crossing 1 billion monthly users, Anthropic calling for a global pause on frontier AI — decode the three words on every AI invoice, and close with two hot takes you won't hear anywhere else.
Like how we think about AI?
Human In the Loop is me and Matt thinking out loud. Putting that thinking to work inside a real company is the day job. If you're a founder or team trying to ship AI that survives production, let's talk.
